BILLY GRIMES THE ROVER

My great-grandmother didn't sing this, but would often recite all the words; the last time was the day before she died. Apparently, she had learned it in childhood and I believe she would use it to demonstrate that her memory was excellent when her physical health was failing.

PLINY ALLEN (1802-1884)

The following quote is from Rev. Otis Cole of the Methodist-Episcopal Church of Spencer, Massachusetts, and is cited in Henry M. Tower's "Sketches of Spencer History."

'The lusty shouting of the louder-voiced men and women were not less valuable. The gentle tone of Sister Sarah Allen was only the fair complement of Brother Pliny Allen's stentorian voicing of what stirred in his great nature. I recall him as kneeling humbly in his mill pond as her received Christian baptism; his pastor plunging him forward under the sunlit water, his heart, his home, his all, and offering to God."

OR NOT

If you need to know. Know this. Danny Fox does a decent cover, but someone I know real well did even better. But that was then, and this is now.

Listen to me, baby,
There's something you must see.
I want to be with you, gal,
If you want to be with me.

But if you got to go,
It's all right.
But if you got to go, go now,
Or else you gotta stay all night.

It ain't that I'm questionin' you.
To take part in any quiz.
It's just that I ain't got no watch
An' you keep askin' me what time it is.

But if you got to go,
It's all right.
But if you got to go, go now,
Or else you gotta stay all night.

I am just a poor boy, baby,
Lookin' to connect.
But I certainly don't want you thinkin'
That I ain't got any respect.

But if you got to go,
It's all right.
But if you got to go, go now,
Or else you gotta stay all night.

You know I'd have nightmares
And a guilty conscience, too,
If I kept you from anything
That you really wanted to do.

But if you got to go,
It's all right.
But if you got to go, go now,
Or else you gotta stay all night.

It ain't that I'm wantin'
Anything you never gave before.
It's just that I'll be sleepin' soon,
It'll be too dark for you to find the door.

But if you got to go,
It's all right.
But if you got to go, go now,
Or else you gotta stay all night.

My coconuts name is Merv, but we affectionately call him "Che." Here's some of his photos from when I first adopted him off a South Florida beach until he started Little League.

Enjoy his namesake Merv Griffin of the Freddy Martin variety show back in 1951.

"Lookin' funny in my eyes, Lord..." BUKKA WHITE ~FIXIN' TO DIE

I'm lookin' funny in my eyes and I believe I'm fixin' to die, believe I'm fixin' to die
I'm lookin' funny in my eyes and I believe I'm fixin' to die
I know I was born to die but I hate to leave my children cryin'

Just as sho' as we livin', just as sho' we born to die, sho' we born to die
Just as sho' as we livin', sho' we born to die
I know I was born to die but I hate to leave my children cryin'

Your mother treated me children like I was her baby child, was her baby child
Your mother treated me like I was her baby child
That's why's I find it so hard to come back home to die

So many nights at the fireside, how my children's mother would cry, how my children's mother would cry
So many nights at the fireside, how my children's mother would cry
Cause I told the mother I had to say goodbye

Look over yonder, on the burying ground, on the burying ground
Look over yonder, on the burying ground
Yon' stand ten thousand, standin' still to let me down

Mother take my children back, before they let me down, before they let me down
Mother take my children back, 'fore they let me down
I don't need for them to screamin' and cryin' on the graveyard ground

HISTORY'S DOPPELGANGERS (#1)

History's biggest(arguably)religous charlatan has quite obviously found the ultimate reincarnation in the person of Glenn Beck. He takes the second "M" out of Mormon.
