Limited clashes in L.A.'s May Day protests
Los Angeles Times | May 1, 2012 | 5:45 p.m.
May Day protests throughout Los Angeles were largely peaceful, except for a few clashes.
The LAPD warned that downtown L.A. traffic would remain jammed through the evening, with numerous streets subject to closure until at least 7:30 p.m.
In one incident, some protesters appeared to swarm a smaller number of LAPD officers, who in turn called for backup. A police official said a female police officer was struck in the head with a skateboard and taken to a hospital. The impact of the blow dented her helmet, the official said, but her injury appears not to be life-threatening.
