Ice Cream for Democracy! And, the amendments we support, and why.
---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Peter Schurman, Free Speech For People
Dear Terry -
Here's a great way to beat the summer heat: free ice cream from Ben & Jerry's, our partners in the GetTheDoughOut campaign.
Our campaign for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United is making incredible progress. Massachusetts just became the 7th state to officially call for an amendment, joining more than 300 cities, towns, and counties, more than 2,000 public officials, and more than 2,000 business leaders in this call.
We're well on our way, but to win we're going to have to get more people to join us. It's going to take a massive national movement to persuade ⅔ of Congress and ¾ of the states to amend the Constitution.
Can you help get 10 friends on board? We'll give a free pint of Ben & Jerry's to the first 100 people who do.
Simply ask your friends to sign onto our email list, via this link:
Here's some introductory text you can pass along to encourage them:
I'm part of a growing national movement to take back America and limit the power of corporations over our lives. I'm writing to invite you to join me, at: http://j.mp/FSFPfriends
We're fighting back against the Supreme Court's decision that gave corporations the same rights as people. The only way to overrule the Supreme Court is by amending the U.S. Constitution, so that's what we're going to do.
Our movement is just getting started, but we've already scored some major successes: seven states have officially called for an amendment, and so have 2,000 public officials, 300 cities, towns, and counties, and more than 2,000 business leaders.
It costs nothing to be part of it, and the email load is light, about one message every two weeks. Will you please join me?
We've got to do something. This campaign will make a real difference, if you'll help out.
Thanks so much for reaching out to your friends to help grow our movement.

P.S.: Another measure of the growing popularity of our movement is the number of bills that have been introduced in Congress, proposing various ways a constitutional amendment could be worded. There are now 13 such bills in play in Congress. We recently did a close analysis comparing all these bills, and we thought you might like to see it. You can access that analysis here.
